Over the last couple of months, I’ve continued to try new restaurants in #Houston. I have come up with some favorites (Grace’s, La Griglia, & Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers) I’ve been on a Louisiana-style kick lately and I’ve tried three restaurants recently: LA Crawfish, The Seafood Spot, and Bayou City. While they have similar menus, they were each very different.
If any of you follow me on IG @kendradawnrn2002 you know that this past weekend, Jaden was in town. I speak with (rather text) my son regularly and we share quite a bit. When I decided to buy a #Mustang a couple of months ago, it was killing me not to tell him. He’d just started driver’s ed and kept referencing being my chauffeur in my Honda Element when he came to visit. Yes, I drove a Honda Element because it was appropriate for the #PacificNorthwest and I loved that car! Anyway, I was excited to see Jaden’s reaction when I pulled up in the #5.0 at the airport. His reaction was priceless. He didn’t skip a beat in getting behind the wheel to drive me around. This kid had no idea how much engine was under that hood but he did a spectacular job! He’s a safe driver and didn’t let this #Houston traffic get the best of him. It was a proud momma moment. Continue reading “A Weekend with the Kid”
When I don’t know what to do, I write.
For those who have followed my blog for a few years, you’ve been privied to my loves, likes, dislikes and even my quirks. I usually try to keep things light but the whole process has been therapeutic for me. However, tonight I write because I don’t know what else to do and I’m counting on this to be therapeutic.
After spending a few weeks in Oklahoma with his grandparents, Jaden made his way to Houston to spend some time with me. I’m always so excited to see my son. He’s such a fun kid and has an hilarious sense of humor. He stayed just shy of two weeks before he took a detour to tag along with me to San Diego. We had no idea what we were going to do while he was here in Houston so of course we decided to do touristy stuff!
I survived my first hurricane; kind of. Technically I missed #Harvey. I had a planned trip to visit my niece in San Diego the day the #hurricane hit. Jaden & I took an earlier flight and we landed in California Friday morning. Over the next several hours and days, we watched as the devastation unfolded in what I now call home: #Houston. I couldn’t begin to imagine what people were experiencing and the heart-breaking images brought tears to my eyes. Continue reading “I’m Thankful”
Okay, we all know that things start to fall apart when you start getting a little older. I noticed some changes when I hit 35. I was not happy to see 35 and my body is constantly reminding me that I’m not 23 anymore. As a nurse I LOVE to use the excuse of taking care of others as a reason for not taking care of myself. Truth is, I’m lazy! I am one of the laziest people you will ever meet when it comes to working out. I CANNOT commit to working out to save my life. Well, I haven’t been able to up to this point. However, I am going to stop being selfish and actually start taking care of this host I call my body. I’ve realized that at this point in life, it takes a different motivator to make me commit to such a thing. So my plan is to start slow…3 days per week. I have a personal trainer to help me reach my initial goals and I’m actually excited (even though the picture doesn’t look like I’m excited). I can already hear some of you talking crap about me because I’m already “small”…but guess what, little people have heart attacks too!
Earlier today I began writing my #blog with the excitement of sharing my #Houston experiences over the last couple of weeks. However, I didn’t get very far because something just didn’t feel right. Perhaps because there’s something else on my mind and in my heart. I wasn’t quite sure what it was but then I picked up a #book (well technically opened my iBooks app) and read the introduction to The Universe Has Your Back. Just the introduction alone hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s odd how the fear to turn the pages struck me instantly, but it’s not a fear that I can’t push past. I’m intrigued to be honest. I’m not really into self help books or books that are extremely spiritual; however, I’m going to delve into what the author has to offer. Continue reading “Back to Vulnerability”
Well folks, I had the opportunity to hop on a plane and spend Mother’s Day with the kid and make it to the Bradley Angle Glam Her #fundraiser. If you remember my last post, I talked about Bradley Angle a bit and mentioned that I’d recently donated some personal products to the organization. I’d also sponsored a table at the fundraiser and wasn’t planning to attend because of my move to Houston. As the stars aligned, I made it to the fundraiser and I got to take Jaden with me!
I am finally moved in and unpacked. Whew, I do not like moving. It’s exhausting. There are no more boxes to unpack and I couldn’t be happier. My place is exactly 1/2 the square footage of my house but my closet is ridiculously huge. No complaints though. I wish all closets were that big!
The guest room/Jaden’s room is ready! I think it turned out pretty good. Im in love with the concrete floors and exposed brick and ceilings. However, I’m not too fond of all the extracurricular activities I get to hear. *sigh* lol Continue reading “I Think I Like Houston”
Well folks, I’m on the plane to Houston, TX. Yes, I will become an official resident of TX today (4/12/17). Weird thought but I’ve already found some #sooner allies. I can’t wait until football season starts! #BOOMER
It’s been a very busy time making this move happen. I love logistics so planning the move was exciting. Putting my house on the market was the thing that made it seem so real. When the house sold in less than 2 weeks – I knew it was serious! I can’t go any further without recognizing my amazing realtor, Shelly Caswell with John L. Scott. Shelly was recommended to me by Shawn & David, my neighbors. She is incredibly knowledgable, professional, and on top of her game. I was confident through the entire process because of her expertise and experience. When it came down Continue reading “…and the new journey begins”
